about my writing

During my working life in research administration my day job was filled with academic reading and writing. The following are examples:

2009 – 2010: Toastmasters – writing, storytelling and public speaking.

2010 – 2013: Wrote a successful two-year grant application providing funding for a workshop series on rhetoric for effective research grant-writing.

2011 – 2014: Prepared/delivered monthly presentations for incoming researchers on where to find funding, and how to write a compelling application to win a research grant.

2015 – 2018: Appointed as institutional signing official in central research office, Duke University, with fiduciary responsibility for a portfolio of sponsored research at the institution, reporting to sponsors on the ethical and financially responsible use of their research funds.

2015-2018: Appointed as Lay Member of Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) which provides oversight of research involving animals.

Since retiring in February 2018, I have been exploring creative writing in various forms:

2017 – 2019: article in monthly newsletter as volunteer for community association.

2020 to date: Member in various writer/author organizations and participating in writing groups and online workshops.

2022: Social media presence with website, blog, and accounts with Instagram, Twitter, Mastadon.

In progress: various articles, essays and manuscript.

There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.
